Big News!!!

So, I am the one that updates my blog about once every 6 months! So unless I have told you that I have made an update, you may not see this post until 4 months from now. I always say that I am going to get better about posting and maybe this time I actually will. The reason I think I might this time is because.....I'M PREGNANT!!! It's not that I have all kinds of extra time on my hands now or a tremendous burst of energy, but more so because I really want to document this time in our lives and also be able to better share my experience with those that are not here in Texas to experience this with me. Since they can only hear about the changes from me over the phone or from others, I want to be able to share as much as possible and keep them as involved as I can.

So, of course Brett and I are so excited and maybe a little nervous too about the impending changes in our lives. It is just incredible to us that we are going to be parents and be responsible for this new little person. We are so blessed to not only have each other, but have amazing parents and families, wonderful friends, great jobs that we love, a beautiful home and almost 2 years of marriage in which we have created some amazing memories. Now we get to add another blessing to the list! We are just ecstatic and thank God every day for what he has done in our lives and what he continues to do.

This is our little angel - we can not wait to meet him or her! We find out in about a month whether we will be welcoming a boy or a girl!

As far as my pregnancy, I have been feeling GREAT! I haven't been sick at all (sorry to all of you that did experience that - I have heard the horror stories and I know it is not fun). I have gained about 2 pounds total (as of 16 weeks) and I'm not really showing yet. Both the lack of weight gain and not showing have honestly had me a little concerned just because I feel like I should be progressing more than that at this point. I know everyone is different and my Dr. says that everything is fine, but it is still hard not to worry a little bit. As you can see from the picture above, everything looks ok in there and we have heard the heartbeat at the last 2 appointments so I know there is nothing to worry about - I just assumed there would be more physical changes by now. I haven't felt any kicks or movement yet but I have heard it is pretty typical for that to happen around 18-20 weeks so I am not worried about that. It has been a very easy pregnancy so far and I am so very thankful for that. It almost makes it seem not real at this point but I know my little one is in there and growing stronger every day. Brett and I already love this little thing so much and we are so excited for all of the changes ahead!

So, I am ready for the advice to start pouring in! For all of you moms out there, I need to know all of your must haves and words of wisdom. What can you not live without and what would you consider now to be unnecessary? I am talking everything from Diaper Champs or Genies to burp cloths to pacifiers to certain brands that you are faithful to. We are going to start registering for most things after we find out boy or girl but I want to start making a list of all the necessities. Anything you can share would be great!

I look forward to sharing this experience with all of you and asking for your thoughts and advice. Thank you to all of you for the love you have shown us. Please continue to pray for us and Baby Berend as we all prepare for the journey ahead.
More posts and updates coming soon....I promise!
Love to you all!

Well you can only guess how EXCITED I am!!! You even put in pictures-so impressed!! I will email you about products I liked or didn't use since it may be kind of long. I can already tell that that little baby is just so darn cute. He/She looks just like you! :) Thanks for the post!

I decided to just leave baby product stuff on here instead of emailing. I actually did a blog post on some of the stuff we liked:
http://heathnashley.blogspot.com/2008/02/baby-products.html

Stuff we didn't really use: wipe warmer, bottle warmer (just used bowl of hot water), and we used a regular trash can for diapers since we take it out pretty often anyway, we just use scented trash bags.

If I think of anything else I will let you know.

CONGRATULATIONS! Im so excited for you! We really live too close to each other to not meet up. My piece of advice for products that work and don't work....there is a reason there are so many products out there...what one person likes, another person doesn't. So, don't be afraid to try different things until you find the one that works for you and baby berend.

CONGRATS!!! That is awesome you guys are going to be incredible parents!!

Things we liked: wipe warmer (sorry Ashley, we LOVED ours), diaper champ (I like not being tied to a product, and we use scented trash bags too), I liked Pampers diapers in the beginning-their NB & sz 1 seemed to work better

Things that were pointless: bottle warmer (bowl of hot water worked for us) and those changing-pad covers (just one more thing to have to strip and wash--we just wiped down the pad when needed and used lap pads to cover it when it was cold)

We loved to swaddle Shelby when she was itty bitty. They tend to jerk and it makes them feel like they're falling, or it startles them when they're asleep and they'll wake up. You can use a blanket, but we used an actual Swaddle - they are completely fool-proof with Velcro and everything!!

Pampers are awesome!!! The ones in the yellow bag, the Pampers Swaddlers, were our favorite. We are actually using Wal-Marts brand and haven't had any problems with them, but we didn't switch to those until she was in a size 3.

We use our diaper champ all the time. Don't get the diaper genie because you can only use their bags. With the diaper champ you can use any sack - Target, Wal-Mart, etc.

Our bouncy seat came in very handy. I'd set her in it while I took a shower. I'd also set her in it on the counter top in the kitchen (one thing I actually swore I'd never do). But, I'd set her there while I was cooking dinner and tell her what I was doing, like I was on a cooking show. She really got a kick out of that!

Get several sheets too. At first she won't get them dirty, unless she poops out of her diaper. Later though, she'll get them dirtier - snot when she's sick, pee when she starts sleeping on her tummy, etc. (I'm not sure why I'm saying "she".)

Please call me anytime you have any questions about anything!!!

I love you sweetie!!

Wow! You are getting such great advice! Dean and Cooper are Huggies boys-we love them! I would recommend that you get a few different kinds and then see which ones you like best b/c they all fit differently on different babies. (pampers as everyone else has said are really good too, we just liked huggies the best. The walmart brand (white cloud) is good too and Lori said she likes the target brand also.

When I was pregnant someone recommended to me to get the ultimate crib sheet (it fits over your actual sheet so that you don't have to take off the sheet everytime). I don't have them yet b/c both boys still sleep in their bouncers but I will probably get them soon! :) This website is another cool thing regarding sheets that I thought about. http://www.cloudsandstars.com/

I will let you know if I think of anything else-but it sounds like you have gotten a lot of great advice from everyone else!

YAY!!! Congratulations!!! I am SO excited for you and can't wait to see more updates!

I agree - diaper genie did not work and buying special bags was a pain. We put a diaper pail in the garage :-)

Bottles, pacis, etc. - different ones work for different babies . . .who knew they have such strong opinions when they're so tiny! hee hee

If you're planning on breastfeeding and will need to pump I suggest getting a Medela pump even though they're so expensive (I know you can rent them at AMH so maybe at other hospitals too?) I only bf for 2 weeks (another story!) but I had gotten a dinky hand pump and it was miserable! Holly saved the day and let me borrow her Medela (sanitized of course) - a HUGE difference!

Have fun! Buying baby stuff is the best!! :-)

Tine,
So excited for you and Brett! What awesome parents you will make for this sweet angel!
Great Items:
1. Folding baby swing that you can store. . .that way it doesn't take up your whole living area. Those things are huge!
2. Comfortable shoes for pregnancy and all the chasing you will do when he/she starts crawling!
3. A bright and colorful mobile.
4. Yeah, Diaper Champ!
5. Good breast pump. A must.

Congrats on your pregnancy! Can't wait to see your cute self grow!
